I don’t think Enis can be trusted to know what he says he knows.
For that matter, he probably can’t be trusted to think what he says he thinks, or even that he says what he says that he says.
Now, THAT’s untrustworthy.

It’s “nice” to see people in loooovvvve, ain’t it?
It’s a little more alarming when you’re seeing people getting all Lovey-dovey.
And when the people in question are well past retirement age… well, it’s maybe time to change the subject and not think about it any more.
You’re thinking about it, aren’t you.
Well, so long as you’re not thinking about your grandparents like that.
Ohhhhh, now you kinda ARE, aren’t ya. Ew.
News spreads like wildfire at the Fest! I guess with that many people all crammed together, lots of things spread like wildfire. News, Gossip, Talk, Innuendo, etc. Vomiting, as we’ve seen. The Flu, once would expect. COVID, if this were the real world (but in the Hubrisverse, there ain’t no such thing because it depresses me.), food poisoning, fleas, unmentionable vulgar medical issues we also don’t wish to deal with here ’cause they ain’t funny… and, of course, Wildfires. Those would, by definition, spread like wildfire. Campfire, too, if left unattended would spread like wildfire after a certain point. You can probably guess the point at which it begins to spread like wildfire.
Just gonna leave that joke riiiiiight here for ya.
Since these cartoons have already run over on the Patreon page, I’ve already got some feedback on this one…
So let’s examine Kara’s behavior… Competition junkie tries to turn her life around by dating someone who dotes on her and suits her father and doesn’t enable her competition addiction.
And she tries to turn him into Hubris the very second that she’s accomplished her goal.
Yep. Perfectly normal human behavior.
I’m now going to the kitchen to get my fifth soda of the day that I swore off five times today already.
Jacquée is lobbing softballs for the Mayor. They must have a studio appearance lined up later.
Durnell’s got the Fest on his mind. Can you blame him?
Dusty is cranky, and apparently has a longer memory than a lot of interviewers these days.
I spend a lot of time during news interviews saying, “Didn’t he (or she) do the EXACT OPPOSITE last year and swear it was the right thing and that the OTHER guys were horrible hypocrites? Are ya gonna mention THAT? Even to ask where the change of heart came from? Anything? No?”
No one is surprised that Paste doesn’t have time to go thinking up lies that he then has to remember, right?
He might think up a JOKE that involves lying to you, but jokes are more fun than torturing the facts until it doesn’t look like you just pooped on the Mayor’s big moment.
And so Paste has learned that valuable lesson that so many of his contemporaries and 99% of politicians have never learned.
Blurt out the truth and own it. Own that stupid, thoughtless truth down to the bone. And yell it through a microphone so that anyone who wants to bust you on it just has to suck it up… and probably lie to their boss about why they didn’t stop you in the first place.
Junkpile Jenga was a throwaway event no matter how you look at it.
It was a fun concept, but Hubris wasn’t around to okay things and it just sorta GOT there, with a prod from the TV guys. TV guys are notorious for asking people to do and say ridiculous, dangerous things so that the TV guys can then film them and show it to the public as though the people were doing these things without being asked to by the TV guys.
Think I’m just being silly? Ever watch those “reality” shows where people are leaping off things onto other things? Think those people would have even CONSIDERED doing that stuff, say, just sitting around the house one Saturday? Nope. What about the shows where people are sneaking off to either get an edge in some game or have a tryst with another player/contestant? How ‘sneaky’ are they being? There’s a camera crew including sound guys and lighting engineers following their every single move and word, and a director muttering instructions into a microphone the WHOLE TIME.
Now tell me that if Dusty put a camera in your face and said, “Climb up on that tower of junk and yank a part of it out of there to put on top.” that you wouldn’t smile for that camera and seriously consider the risk of getting yourself squished versus losing a chance to be on TV.
Oh, man. I’d be so squished.
Of course Them Duke Boys hot-wired the fancy compactor truck.
Admit it. You would have, if you’d had the chance.
The Ford Fiesta, however, never had a chance.
If there’s anyone who’s knowledge of what people want out of a festival is both instinctive and comprehensive, it’s Paste.
What do people want? They want to BE the Fest! Paste already feels like he is, so he’s happy to be generous. Why not promise that everyone gets fifteen minutes on the Jumbotron? He has every intention of making that happen… or at least of telling someone else to make that happen. He’s sorta like P. Enis in that respect, isn’t he? It’s just that Paste can back it up… or at least he has people that he trusts to back it up.
Sorry for the delay in the strips this week. Still haven’t got the knack of loading everything at Patreon, and then loading them later here. I keep thinking I’ve already uploaded every week long since, and forget to double-check myself. You guys feel free to throw up a flag or send up a flare, or at least email if you don’t see a strip load up every Monday or Tuesday. This time, it was good ol’ Jerry Shippee (whose comic strip is called ‘Clamcakes’) who alerted me to my oversight plight.
As for the cartoon- Of course Paste took advantage of an empty stage. If you think it was a calculated move to further his career, you’d be wrong, I bet. I think it was an entirely instinctive move to further his career. He didn’t calculate nothin’. He just jumps in there and acts out.
