Hubris- And They’re Off

I should have been around more boat races.  I’ve paddled as Safety Boat for one here in town a couple of times, and I’ve been to watch the race a couple of times.

Other than the insane scrum at the starting gun?  Not interested.

Seriously.  It sounds awful, but I just have a lot of difficulty in finding something to thrill me about canoe and kayak races. I’ve done artwork for race teams and for races to use on posters and T-shirts.  That was entertaining for the length of time it took to do the work.

So… I guess what I’m saying- is that THIS is the canoe race I wanna see.  This is the insane scrum at the starting gun, spread out across a lake.  That’d be great.  I like that notion, and so I pass it on to you.  Enjoy.

Hubris- Proper response

If you thought the Sportsmart board was a little out of touch, Well, the Hometeam people are maybe a trifle more distanced from the workaday world than that.

I’ve decided THAT’s the reason why I felt right, making them look like the aliens in the Star Trek original pilot/Menagerie episodes.  There’s no reason to think they don’t know about outdoor recreation, but there’s no reason to feel that they do, either.  You wait and see if their world and your world have any similarities upon which to base a conversation.

Hometeam’s board knows about business. I wouldn’t go any farther than that yet.

Hubris- Jeep Envy

Poor ol’ Freud.  He did a lot, but y’know… he made some assumptions that didn’t pan out.  Us guys walked around for a generation or two after ol’ Freud  thinking that women wished they had what we had.

Turns out, women’re people, and just wanna be treated like people, and generally, they are fairly happy with the genitalia they got.  Who’d have thought it? Not Freud.

Freud probably drove some German car, had lots of leather and wood trim, bunch of McWienerschnitzel bags and cups in the back floorboard, Gutta-percha testicles swinging from the trailer hitch, and a big ol’ “Honk if you wish you had one” bumper monogram.

…And still couldn’t work out why the ladies weren’t all impressed with his ride.

You ever do stupid stuff like that when you were a kid?  Riding down the interstate in the back seat, keeping your elbows lower than the bottom edge of the window so your arms look like it’s someone else choking you to death as people in the passing lane… probably ignore you.  But I dunno.  Once in a while…

Way back in 2002, I got to do this illustration for Dagger Kayaks.  They had a deal going with Subaru, and every year would put some kind of entertaining graphic on a spiffy new car.  This was one for 2003, I guess.  I was at the Ocoee river a bunch that year, and expected to see it on the hood of a Subaru, but never saw it in person.  If you saw it, let me know.
