I believe Lee’s in a spot of bother. And in his cups. And in for it, soon. And in deep, altogether.
We’ll see how his job works out. Maybe he SHOULD have taken that call from the Dam Inspectors.

Durnell’s not one to crush anyone’s dreams without good reason.
If the good reason happens to be that newspapers don’t pay money enough for people to live on, well, it’s not gonna be Durnell who kicks a guy like Clem when he’s down!
Nossir! He’s gonna tell him fair and square that they’ve got a good job for him the very minute that they lose their minds.
More to the point, though, they’ve got a crappy job for him right now.
Nikki is like a lot of us. She’s taking control of her life.
Bob is like a lot of us. He’s given up trying to control what can’t be controlled.
While I believe Nikki is new to trying to this organized and specified life, she seems to have embraced it.
Bob embraces the sort of philosophy that fosters calm during a storm. If you don’t mind storms because you can’t control the weather, then there’s not a lot of frustration when life isn’t what you wrote down last month.
Well, I had thought that this cartoon would be one of your extras that would run on Saturday, but I had three caricature gigs this weekend, so things got backed up. We’ll have to see if I can manage a couple more on Thursday and Saturday this week. Cross your fingers or toes or something. But don’t ask me to do another caricature job for a week or so.
ADDITIONAL INFO: got back into the studio only to discover that the cartoon didn’t go up today! Nuts! For the first time I got a red “Missed Schedule” notification. I don’t know why it missed updating. I didn’t click something somewhere yesterday when I loaded the cartoon. Sorry ’bout that!!
Well, I had hoped to post this about twelve hours ago, but you know how that goes. Or, if you didn’t know- now you do.
Visiting Scott Stantis is great. He’s one of the sharpest people I know, and would make a much better business of Hubris than I have so far. But with his shining example, maybe I can get myself into a better gear. Or maybe I’ll just make an effort to hang out with him more. It’s a worthwhile thing to do. If YOU know any editorial cartoonists, go ask ’em how their day is and listen to the answers.
The best laid plans of mice and men go oft astray…
Not that this was a plan, best laid or not.
Early days of the comic strip, I thought I’d do a lot of cartoons like today’s. Every so often, Hubris and Kara would find themselves out late on a hilltop and either spell out the latest storyline for the sake of keeping everyone updated when necessary, or they’d say something clever or thought provoking or philosophical.
There were, I think, three or four of these cartoons in the later syndicate packages. (which became the early strips here on the website) And then I returned the kids to the hilltop once or twice more since then. I think the last time was just after the police officer scattered himself badly on Hubris’ longboard.
Why I haven’t returned them to the hilltop in a while is a mystery to me, but Hubris needed a little time for quiet reflection today, so there he goes. And thus ends another comic strip “day”, which might actually be a week, or not, and still takes weeks to tell anyhow.
“Time”, as Douglas Adams or Doctor Who (I can’t remember which) said, “is Bunk.”
Hubris doesn’t WANT Paste to get hurt, Hubris just doesn’t want to hear Paste crab about not having the opportunity. I mean, Paste made him promise he could go first- wouldn’t you?
