It’s tough, knowing yourself the way others know you. Mal is discovering what people outside his head think of him, and that’s a jarring experience for people who think they’ve got a good bead on the World.
I’m crankier in the real world than I am inside my head.

I think Mr. Biner would have toasted “To Not Hubris” given the chance. But he wouldn’t have been happy about it.
There is an old saying, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”
“Mama” could be a lot of different people, depending on who you are. Including yourself.
Sorry about yesterday’s lack of update. I had a long return from a caricature event waaaay out in another state. After spending just at 13 hours trying to get myself home at the whims of airlines, airplanes and witless chance that rule the fate of all of us, I arrived back in the bosom of my family and without the ability to think straight. I utterly forgot that I’d intended to at least scan in some sketches and upload some photos with which to entertain you.
In other words, I staggered in, put some food in my mouth, and fell into bed in the kind of stupor that only air travel can produce in otherwise snappy folk.
Seriously. Some folks never seem to realize that ‘being happy just like you are’ is even an option. I mean, most of US have figured it out, but SOMEBODY’s buying that stuff in the weird ads in the snooty fashion magazines.
Lowell thinking. I haven’t checked, but I don’t think I’ve written a lot of that.
Also? Mixed metaphors are really, really hard to avoid unless you’ve got your eye to the storm. The shorthand that we use to tag things in our language lends itself to cut and paste recombobulating. Like an ostrich running it’s race down the roadway of literary baskets full of eggs.
Well, here we are again with my favorite aphorism: “It’s the assumptions you don’t know you’re making that do you the most harm.”
That gem was distilled down from a whole paragraph that Douglas Adams (usually more succinct when it came to brilliant observation) wrote in his book “Last Chance To See”. I don’t know if the book is still in print. But if you find any in a book store, buy a few of them. Read one of them, and then you’ll be glad to have the others to loan and give as gifts. That’s my advice. The book’s a little dated. Some of the creatures that Douglas and Mark Carwardine went to see are no longer extant- White Rhinos, for instance. Yangtse Dolphins for another. But the point remains that the book is entertaining, informative and as with any of Douglas Adams’ writing- hilarious.
