MOvember.

Movember.

I suppose it’s not cool or politically correct or something to say that you’re trying to raise awareness of men’s health issues, but it does need to be done.  You can argue that men’s health issues are the basis for most, if not all, of the health research done for the first hundred years of modern Western medicine, and you can argue that boosting for this takes attention away from other, more deserving issues… but really.  We all need to look after ourselves.

And let’s face it.  Guys barely do what they’re supposed to do, even when they’re reminded.

So.  Guys.  Go get your prostate checked.  Your guy-junk needs to stay healthy, or you die.  There you go.

And you can go to Movember.com. Also, you can grow your Mo’stache.  When people say, “Why are you puttin’ on them affectations like growing out that lip-fungus?”  You can tell ’em “I’m doing to remind you to go to the doctor and do the one thing that scares the %$#@ out of you!  Get it checked!”

Get it checked, dude.

Eric Owens, and that other kid…

As mentioned before, there are some local schoolkids that know what I do, and have discovered that I will ‘publish’ their cartoons.  I think I’m going to impose a ‘theme’ rule- that the drawings have to have skateboards or bikes or suchlike in them from now on.  Not that I don’t like DragonBall Z tracings, but … y’know… I don’t, much.

Here’s a couple of drawings, though- One’s from Eric Owens and the other’s by a young man who didn’t sign his cartoon.  I usually return the cartoons stuck on the cover of a sort of sketchbook thingy, so maybe the sketchbook is more important to him than having his name on here.  I’ll update when he tells me his name.

You know… you guys could be sending in drawings and photos.

GID’S TIPS

This is the first post of GID’S TIPS

-the point  of this is get helpful tips from a expert.

This time I’m doing rules and tips for airsoft

Now. airsoft is a fun sport.  I love it but a few rules apply like: use common manners,  think of others

Rules

1.Repect others around you.   This means if you are in an urban area, stay well clear of all pedestrian areas, or anywhere people can expect to be without being shot at.

2. Stop when some one yells stop.  There may be an injury.   Airsoft is a sport with high velocity guns. There will be injuries.  I have been shot in the throat a couple times my self.

3.  Play fair, don’t cheat, and be honest.   If you get shot out, step out. Or if you get some one out don’t keep shooting at them. Ignoring this rule gives others the excuse to ignore it too and the game breaks down into useless squabbling.

4.  Play hard.   Enjoy yourself, have fun, this is a great time to have fun with your old, and new friends.

5.  Bring your own gear.  Unless you’re just trying out the game. Make sure you and you friends have plenty of gear for yourself and for others.

6.  Eye protection is a must have.  I can’t stress this enough. If you do not want to be blind, or partly blind, wear eye protection.  There are lots of styles of safety glasses, goggles and masks. Make sure what you choose does not endanger or interfere with your eyesight.

I hope this helps you in any way. HAVE FUN!

Jeff Outdoors – Surftech Generator AST SUP

The man abuses outdoor gear, so you don’t have to

You want a SUP, but you don’t know what to get?  I’ve got a great option for a non-packable, general purpose SUP.

The Surftech Generator AST is an epoxy-coated foam-core board that works well in flat water or mild surfing.  It’s stable, well shaped and comes in three sizes.

I got the 11’6” board, which is 31.5” wide, so that my bigger friends could paddle it, but I’m glad I got the bigger board for another reason – kids.  I’m only 150lbs, so I can take a dog or a child along without sinking the board.  If I had gotten the 10’6”, surfing the boat waves would be more fun, and it would be easier to carry and store, but I wouldn’t have the versatility.

I’ve had the board since May of this year and have put many miles on it.  I’ve surfed behind ski boats on it, paddled in 15 knot winds, and glided on glass.  There isn’t anything that I’d change on the board for what I’m doing with it except make the grab hole more inset for your fingers.

The wide, stable design has been great for getting beginners out on it. I also have not had any cracks despite the kids playing with it and bumping rocks.

Pros

  • Lighter than any roto-mold or plastic board
  • More crack-resistant than traditional fiberglass
  • Relatively inexpensive ($900)
  • Has tie downs for longer trips

Cons

  • Grab hole is not very good when hands are wet

Bottom Line

If you’re not looking for a lake board, or a full on ocean surfer, this is the best combo of weight and durability for the money that I’ve found.
