Free Comic Book Day Free Comic Book Day

Here’s a fine article the local paper had me ‘write’ about today- Free Comic Book Day.

You might have to click on the image a couple of iterations to get it up to a legible size.  Who knows how these computers decide to display anything.  It didn’t offer me the size option I wanted.  Baffling.

So if there’s a comic shop near you, go in and see what they’re willing to do for you!  Different shops have different deals.

Team US

I am not an orderly person.  My studio, my mind, and my personal abilities are disordered and chaotic.

Consequently, not all of the Team Us folks have made it into the Hubris cartoons yet.

Part of the reason is that I didn’t want to clump everyone in on the first ‘day’, and part of it was that I had some other gags to tell.

Part of it is that the image below is my ‘notes’ so far.  I think only Molly isn’t on my sheet.  Molly, and maybe others who got lost in the shuffle of emails with attached photos being saved into a folder, which then proved to be a bad idea.  The emails were saved in some flakey format where the photos didn’t show up, and I had to go back and match things up and made a mess of it.

So, if you haven’t appeared in the strip so far, and you’re NOT on this page (click and maybe click again to zoom if necessary), then you may have to remind me.  Also, if you are, or if you know the lovely young lady on the right hand side of the page without any name or sport noted, remind me who you (she) are (is).  I can’t seem to match up the proper info for an identification.

Or, of course, if you haven’t sent me a photo so that you can be part of Team Us, well, Now might be a good time.

Back to the action!

Hike!

I may have posted this before, but I can’t remember doing it.

This is the sort of illustration that I thought would make a good poster or Sunday cartoon if Hubris was part of the old paradigm where you got your comic strip in the newspapers and then you were set for life as a millionaire.

I like images that don’t have just one funny punchline.  I like ’em to be packed with little sight gags.  They take longer and they look like they belong in MAD magazine, but I like ’em.

Four times before, I’ve given you some quips that unicyclers are forced to come up with because the typical person, when confronted with a unicycle says one of four or five things.  It gets very dull giving the same one or two answers (the four or five questions are not very different from one another)  And so, here you go.  Number five in the series of things that unicyclers say when the general public comments on their riding of said unicycles.  This one cannot be said to pedestrians, it must be said to bicyclers, you understand…

To pedestrians, one says, “Me?  No, I passed these other guys up the trail, and THEY were riding TWO wheels… each!  Amazing!”

So at the convention a few weeks ago, I was giving away Hubris and Buckets pencil pages.  I stamp the backs of them with the web address and use them as freebees.  A friend of mine (who does real comic books) said I could be selling them, but I think they’re better used as marketing tools, especially since 1) I still have the finished art on another paper altogether and 2) my pencil pages are so loose as to be offensive.  Wanna see?

Here you go:

I change things on the fly- the spacing and size of the characters, the words… weird stuff.  Fast and loose is my game.
