So… ‘Lurlene’ has come up fairly often as Crazy Dog Lady’s name… though the local police dispatch’s name is Lurlene, and I don’t think this lady works with the police. No. And having two Lurlenes might lead to some funny concept humor, but it’s not exactly the way I like to write… There have been some other fine suggestions, though. I think we can come up with something pretty good for Crazy Dog Lady. If you’ve got any more ideas, get ’em in here. I’m still making up my mind.

So when did someone let the dog out, or does it just eat a hole in the door?
(and when did it grow two more heads?) 😉
Unless they have asked Lurlene to take ‘early retirement’ because she brought Bluto to work?
I thought that ‘Lurlene’ would have worked, except for the reasons you stated. I posted my own suggestion under Wednesday’s strip rather late, but it only occurred to me within the past hour, shortly before you posted this strip. I think it would suit her well, but of course the final judgment will be yours.
DROP BIGFOOT ON TOP OF HER lol
I’d call her Shirley, avid member of the local Shirley Club.
https://www.facebook.com/ShirleyClubUSA
She does remind me of a manic landlady I had once who used all four of her names whenever she introduced herself, and also had a precious little mutt that could do no wrong no matter what mess she created inside.
So I’d probably give dog lady a befitting name such as Shirley Patricia Todd Huddleston.
Florence Jean Castleberry, of “kiss my grits” fame, known to her friends as Flo. Even looks a little like her, with orange hair piled high and sharp face.
I wouldn’t do that to “Flo” … She was her own brand of unique, not jump off the deep end crazy…
OK, she is not actually insane, like Jane Hudson in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, just short tempered and physical, like Katherine Minola, the shrew of The Taming of the Shrew.
So, how about Katy Shrew?
And, of course, there is the famous Texan heiress Ima Hogg. (Real, look it up)
Which leads to Ima Shrew.
Agatha, the DC comics witch
Magrat, Diskworld witch
Sybil, from multi-personality film
Narcissa, from Harry Potter
Rose Havoc
Crazy Dog lady seems to me likely to have a “unique” name, like Vione, or at least a unique spelling, like Lee-sa. ‘Course, it would be hard to go wrong with a name like Beulah, Eugenia, Luella, Mavis or Sadie. Tallulah? Ernestina? Adolfina? Prunella?
Ooh, here’s a goodie from a baby name list: Tomislava,
Slavic name meaning “torture” and “glory.”
I hope we haven’t seen (heard) the last of Clem. Missed him in the group picture. (Yes, I know he’s supporting cast, but strangely calming in a frantic setting.)
About the dog; have the scouts take it out. They are in no danger.
Well, there’s possibly the obligatory “Billy Sue” and “Bobby Jo” but really some of the others are right, those names would be far too tame.
I vote for a name that doesn’t fit her personality in the slightest… Like Hyacinth or Cordeliah or Lillibelle. Or something when you heard it, you thought of blue blooded gentry and then nearly crap yourself when you meet her and find out who the name belongs to. Sort of like when you saw Mrs. “Boss Hawg” after hearing her name was Lulu. Nice enough lady but the name didn’t Quite match the person.
*possibility of the obligatory
[grumbles about needing stronger coffee]
Lulubelle, from the Dukes of Hazzard. Boss Hogg’s wife.
She finally got wise, divorced him and cleaned him out, went for ‘spa’ treatments and lost the weight and turned into what we see today… she had a fancy lawyer from Atlanta, so she IS getting her alimony as well, something she can live on. She bought her doublewide that’s on the edge of town and been there for long enough to ‘nest’ and make that half acre into ‘condemned’… (You Might Be a Redneck won’t touch it)
Blanche Lucretia Hatchette.
I shall elaborate.
Crazy Dog Lady (CDL) sees herself as Blanche from Street Car Named Desire. However, this is what anyone who sees her approaching ends up doing.
Lucretia is based on the famed Lucrezia Borgia.
And Hatchette describes CDL’s results when she claws people’s faces.
Ilene. Aralene. Bellene. Margarine.
Maisy. Maisy is a good crazy name.
I still think of her as Shiela though.
Euless. Gets mangled to ‘useless’ quickly
Geez, Greg. You are in the south. There are plenty of strange names going around the south as I recall when I was living in NC. Some I’d have a hard time pronouncing! But I love the suggestions so keep them coming for a few more days before you decide!!!
Although I do like the ‘Tomislava’ suggestion…..Tommie for short!
I’m trying to decide if I resent that or not. In the meantime, how ’bout Francine, Charlene, Jolene, or anything else ending in -ene.
who was the owner of cerebus? a take off on that perhaps? or her name is something off the initals of CDL (crazydoglady)..
Cerberus was the three-headed dog that guarded the underworld in Greek mythology, so I guess Hades “owned” him (if such a creature can be said to have an owner). But we have been referring to her as CDL for so long that I kind of like the idea of going with those initials. Cthula Daffodil Ludakris? (Do we already have a character named Ludakris?)
Okay, some of the names so far I’ve liked, and I’ve noted down some I really like, and now “Cthula” made me laugh out loud. So we now have an official name for Crazy Dog Lady. The initials thing is cute, but I’ve got a different direction.
Cthula Hanna Belle-Lechter.
There you go.
I read this and was trying to eat. You owe me for cleaning the keyboard out! Chiclet keys too.
There’s a filk song about ‘there’s a plastic cthulu on the dash board of my car’ and I can’t find the lyrics to it right now. Or I’d post them.
where did this scout come from and will the crazy dog lady actully be nuts enough to try and pop a scout over bluto
