Turning up the heat a bit at Sportsmart…
Hope nobody minds the stories jumping back and forth. There’s probably some literary term for it amongst ‘real’ writers. I call it “jumping the stories back and forth to make everyone wonder what the heck’s going on.”
It makes the writing and pacing harder to do, but you guys are worth it.
Yes, even better!
Getting out the popcorn as this may be extra good…
Go Lowell, Go Lowell, Go Lowell…. TEAM LOWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greg, “real” writers call this “juxtaposition.” As in “Juxt a minute, folks, we’ll be back.”
Lowell may have found his true calling here. I wonder if Ms. Wiggens-Ross knows what a true “treasure” he is…
Mal doesn’t seem to be too popular with the staff. It may be a big bus.
am expecting more like the whole BUS CARGO…and maybe some trucks hehe
An Australian Road Train.
with the kangaroo stampede following hehe
lol
oh boy Darth dingle berry is SURE enjoying the torture chamber on Mal right now…and as much as i still worry for the payback. i can’t say i blame him.
I wonder what will happen when they discover that Lowell is not in fact a Sportsmart Employee.
well she seems to consider him a “local specialist” for her investigation. so a contracted outsider.
but i wonder how she will react when she, IF SHE even, realizes it’s him for sure.
Nah. The question is does she remember Lowell at all?
She will remember him when she CARES about the information.
If Mal was doing blackmail and extortion, it’s also highly likely he has been playing fast and loose with scheduling and time off, and other crapola like that. More than toss him under the bus, it’s going to be smear him with chum and dangle him over the side to go fishing for Great Whites time.
I’m sure Ms Wiggins-Ross knows Lowell, they ended up on the SportsMart team together there, and I’m sure that she wasn’t too keen in participating. Lowell at the least will get a nice payoff probably just as a consultant, and at better, regional manager plus his own store to lord over, again.
First panel has Internet spelled wrong
That’s because the word’s not ‘internet’. It’s ‘intranet’- the term may be outdated. It’s a closed system that belongs entirely to one business entity. Only employees with proper access can get onto- not part of the web.
Greg, as far as I know, the term is still current, and it does refer to the company’s internal network.
I certainly hope the term is still current. I use our company’s intranet every day.
Enjoying the story, Greg. Thank you!
Lowell not only seems to be in his true element (and completely by happenstance, I might add)… but he’s actually becoming a cool and competent character here rather than just being the butt-monkey comic relief (a-la Meg in “Family Guy”).
Definitely a change for the better if you ask me. (Not that funny s**t can’t still happen to him… but he’s now can be a bit more on par with the other characters rather than just being a “one-note wonder”.)
Looking forward to more.
lowel has found his true calling making management who screw up squirm. oh pay back is so sweet for lowel . almost feel sorry for that guy who is about to learn a hard lesson.
Something I never expected to see: readers cheering Lowell on. Yes, this is the Hubrisphere, so anything is possible, but still. I’m looking around for the flying pigs to pass overhead any moment now.
And Lowell looks and sounds — again, never thought to see it — *intimidating*. To me, his appearance and demeanor don’t suggest corporate so much as the deadly competence of Cosa Nostra. Think that’s far-fetched? Consider that ‘Dentro’ is Italian — ya never know.
If all goes well for him, I would not be surprised to see a scene reminiscent of the following:

But I’ve also had a disturbing thought: if Lowell does return to the fold, will he resume his original obsession to put Hubris out of business? That’s something I’d prefer not to see, partly because I’d like to think that he’s moved past that, and partly because I think that he would now be capable of doing so.
Bound to get even more interesting as it goes, however it goes.
