I have SIX books to sell at booths now…

I’ve been at the inaugural NCSFest since last Wednesday…

Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine) won the big fancy Cartoonist Of The Year award after being nominated seven times… or is it eight?

And now the sun has set upon this year’s NCSFest.

I’ve got two unfinished Hubris cartoons in the computer I thought I’d have finished sometime over the weekend.  I might get them done in the airport?  Wish me well.

Hubris- Not. Again.

Yeah, I’m exhausted, and I didn’t plan ahead well enough that you get a cartoon today.

Here’s what you DO get-

• Larry, Moe, and Curly tryin’ to put up the NCS banner. (Dave Blazek, Rick Stromoski, and Tom Stiglich, unless I’m really bad at remembering the backs of heads.)

• My wife, Me, and a very famous cartoonist that you should recognize by now.

• Some toys that I managed to cadge for a buddy of mine who collects the livin’ heck out of Batman stuff.

• Mark Parisi, who was in da house, and won his Division award!

• Me and Dave Reddick, whom I respect muchly, and you can tell I’m telling the camera to respect him, too.

• Arnie Roth and some guy who wishes he were Arnie Roth.  If you don’t know, look him up. AWESOME.

• Tom, Ray, and Ellen.  Stiglich, Alma, and Lustig- if you need the details.  I count myself lucky to get to hang out in children’s hospitals and yankee cities with these wonderful people.

The Seat Of Greatness

So  I’ve reported to you that I visited St. Simon’s Island GA, and taught a couple of classes and all.  Did I tell you that I got to visit with Jack Davis and his family just a little bit?

They’re gracious and wonderful people.  His wife is a wonderful lady.  They’re terrific hosts, and their children and grandchildren are finer folks than you usually get to meet.

 

…And I totally peeked in Mr. Davis’ studio and took a shot of his Reuben Award (see if you can spot it in the photo) and his drawing table.

And if you don’t already really know who Jack Davis is, or don’t appreciate all the amazing work he’s done for all these decades, well, I think you need to Google or Bing or whatever your favorite search engine is and check it out.  Chances are you’ll hit a few magazine covers or MAD magazine/comic illustrations, or movie posters, or book covers, or something that’ll make you say, “Hey!  I remember seeing that!”  Or, “I had a copy of that” or some similar thing.
