The Seat Of Greatness

So  I’ve reported to you that I visited St. Simon’s Island GA, and taught a couple of classes and all.  Did I tell you that I got to visit with Jack Davis and his family just a little bit?

They’re gracious and wonderful people.  His wife is a wonderful lady.  They’re terrific hosts, and their children and grandchildren are finer folks than you usually get to meet.

…And I totally peeked in Mr. Davis’ studio and took a shot of his Reuben Award (see if you can spot it in the photo) and his drawing table.

And if you don’t already really know who Jack Davis is, or don’t appreciate all the amazing work he’s done for all these decades, well, I think you need to Google or Bing or whatever your favorite search engine is and check it out.  Chances are you’ll hit a few magazine covers or MAD magazine/comic illustrations, or movie posters, or book covers, or something that’ll make you say, “Hey!  I remember seeing that!”  Or, “I had a copy of that” or some similar thing.

Want…That.

So, Reader Zaphod steered me toward this.

I have to have one before they’re discontinued, like Lawn Darts.  I can see way too many ways to hurt oneself on this, and I intend to try a few of them.

Let’s get to the important questions.  What’s the weight limit?  I may have to drop a few pounds.  Can extra battery be added, because I’m thinking I won’t be done by the time the battery dwindles.  A good Marine Battery.  Will that fit in there somewhere?

BlitzFest

So, Grant du Plessis sent us this:

•••••

Hi there ,

A while ago I sent you a message telling you how Hubris inspired me to
open my own shop. Well after much work and investigating in to the
market I decided to open up an action sports distribution company
instead. I figure this way I get to bring joy to a few more people
than a single shop would. It’s called Righteous Distribution

Anyway, today I’m writing to tell you about the other little spark of
inspiration Hubris and the gang imparted to me. In two weeks time,
partly inspired by Hubris, I will be playing host to my own outdoor
fest! It’s called Blitz Festival!

www.blitzfestival.co.uk. https://www.facebook.com/BlitzFestivalUK

It’s a 3 day festival in homage to all things with wheelz. We will be
have aggressive inline, longboarding, BMX, inline slalom, skateboard
slalom, circus skills and much more! We will be playing host to no
less than 6 Guiness world record attempts. One of the BBC children’s
channels will be there with the folks from Guinness world records to
document it all. We are also hosting the UK’s first ever Longboard and
Inline Boarder Cross!! It is a 150m downhill course littered with
humps bumps and jumps. One of which will be a five foot high camel
jump! First one to the bottom alive…. wins.

If you send me your email I’ll send you the poster for the event and
I’ll send you a few photo’s and videos after the fact.

Thanks again for Hubris and the gang!!!!!!

Grant.

PS eXtreme hackysack, pure genius!

And how cool is that?  Pure Cool!  Pure, unadulterated, clean and sharp COOL.

If you’re in the UK, you better be there.  If you’re even close to the UK, you better be there.  Even if you have to swim a bit.

Stomp!

Tom Maxwell thought we should hear about this. (CLICK)

It’s a MUNI fest.  MUNI is ‘Mountain UNIcycle.’  They’re fun!

If you’re thinking that riding trails on a unicycle is somehow tougher than riding a bike, I remind you that riding a unicycle doesn’t involve any skills you don’t already have.  If you can walk, you have the balance skills.  If you can ride a bike, you have the pedaling skills.  That’s all you need.  A little practice, learn to hop a bit (Just hold the handle on the front of the seat and remember to lift your knees) and you’re on your way.

Remember to wear your wrist guards and your helmet.  Enjoy.
