Aha. That explains schooling for Paste.
(I did correspondence classes for some of my high school. I had books, mailed in homework once in awhile and occasionally my high school teacher advisor got mailed a test I had to take while they made sure I didn’t use my book or notes. Then they sent a grade finally and I had a credit added to my high school credit total)
So Paste has somebody supposedly making him do something. Heh.
Paste is “that” kid that “that” mom drops off at the library to babysit him while she goes to the bar for “grocery shopping”. Only difference is that mom never came back to pick him up at the end of the day. Ten years later…
There are many parents who drop kids off at the library, a bookstore, the toy store at the mall, then leave. Staff find this out, the kid has been left there with no parent at all… some mall stores started calling security who call social services it is so bad in some places–and the parents think it’s perfectly fine to drop them off and expect them to be safe because ‘somebody will watch them’. Store employees are not paid to sit kids. Another is some gyms, they have daycare while you’re at pilates class or working out; one gym noticed one day they had about a dozen kids for more than three hours and had one person in the place, with no kids, working out. It was included with the membership so people were taking advantage of the daycare… or worse, some English as a Second Language, given free by a college, with free daycare for the time of the class, had many sign up, drop off kids and leave. They started to have to take roll call in the class, check what kids they had, and cancel some outraged parents that were just soaking up the daycare. At least Paste is somewhat looked after! (and Mom pays Hubris for keeping Paste under wing)
Even better, people that take their tech toys and plug them in somewhere at the library to recharge, LEAVE, and get incensed when they come back and their shiny whatever is GONE… not the staff’s responsibility when someone is so bright as to do that.
Someone was desperate enough too, at a (I think Broadway) play, before it started, hopped onto the stage and plugged their phone into a set outlet (non functional) then went back to sit. Security removed the phone and the person, and no refund on ticket. As said, at least Paste has someone keeping an eyeball on him at times (Hubris) and at least Hubris is getting paid for it.
I was in a mall on Aug 11. Had to drop a deuce. Was reading a text as I walked into the bathroom, and put my phone back on my hip holster.
Squeezed into a 38″ stall. Cleaned the seat (do it EVERY time with hand sanitizer) drop my pants, and sat down.
About 30 seconds after I started my business, someone REACHED UNDER the stall wall and stole my phone!!!!
Someone’s parents didn’t teach him that “bathroom stalls are SACRED places and thou shalt not steal from someone in a bathroom!”
Sorry, Allan, that’s a real pain in the patoot about someone ripping off your phone, but. There are a lot that ‘Apple Pick’ whenever and wherever. I have a pretty pricy techtoy and that badgirl isn’t where someone can see it especially if I have to use public facilities. I can get it out but someone trying to pick me would have to try to grab it from my hand directly. I do not use a holster, belt clip or bicep band for that reason… hope you had insurance on it for replacement.

Parents who drop their kids off at the ‘community rec centre’ and expect that the adults who are overworked there will watch their kids.

I was just wondering the other day, again, why Paste isn’t in school.
