There are those! I’m surprised Mr. S-C didn’t wet his drawers; or worse, where’s the mosquitos? What camping near water doesn’t have mosquitos? (the pulsating brown cloud I met on North Shore Lake Superior one early summer camping ‘right on the beach’ for one… it finally got too cold and they left)(me smelling of ‘smorgasblood’ and half an ounce of 95% DEET, I mostly won)

If the story is being told in real-time, then it’s too cold for the skeeters to be out yet. Otherwise, Hubris has set up that really transparent netting that doesn’t show up in photographs and cartoon drawings.

Hahaha! This actually reminds me of when I finally persuased my neighbours to take their massive roadlamp down and put up a smaller one instead. (They wanted it for the half hour, three days a winter week when their kid was waiting for the bus and initially opted for a 365 all-night sky bleacher. Kid was still very safe under the new one, dont worry.) When I invited them around for a bbq afterwards and we were sitting under the stars, they finally understood why I wanted my night-sky back…

Well, I am sorry to hear you had any strife with your neighbor, but I’m happy to hear that more people learned to look up into a real sky. I’m looking forward to a couple of good campouts. I live where the sky’s washed out.

The thing I loved about going “up north” as a kid was the night sky. It’s also nice when local governments become so poor that the streetlights stay off, but the increased crime makes it tough to venture out of doors after sunset.
