Kara has nothing to worry about. She has patched, fixed, and stitched enough of Hubris’ hide by now, she should be confident he won’t trade her in on something else… just that competitive streak we have come to love with Kara… heh.

Well, she Had to make sure the girl was kosher yeah? Both for her Own benefit and for Hubris’. How would she know the girl wouldn’t do something to Hubris unless she did?
It’s one thing for Hubris to mangle himself and shred his Own self esteem. A good girlfriend makes sure Nobody Else can come in and Add to the damage, ya know.
I was actually asked once if I COULD walk on water. My instant reply was ‘frozen or not?’ and the person paused. I was a finalist because of that (the person that beat me out had the degree), it stuck in the interviewer’s mind….
Kara’s flourish in the last panel shows they both knew it was all playacting. Women interface on a level men can only guess at. At least I think they do. It’s a safe bet that they will keep Hubris confused in spite of his “ability to read people”. See Feb 27, 2012, search “read”.
Heh, Hubris clearly briefed Nikki thoroughly. Though there’s a lot that Hubris can’t anticipate, let alone control, for once he knew what was coming down the pike and what it could turn into, so he employed a shrewd preemptive strategy, and it appears to have succeeded.

Yep, the true interview and it went off well and both sides KNEW it. Hubris can’t read people? He knew enough to go hide until ‘all clear’.
