Thinking maybe, Hubris’s father probably served in Vietnam to get US citizenship. So maybe because of communists…

I’ll have to sluff this one. But, I graduated high school in 1975, which is when the war ended. I’m 57 years old. To have served 2 years in Vietnam, I’d have to be 59 right now. Assuming that Hubris is 30, his Dad would have had to have kids pretty late, like at age 29. I guess a lot depends on how old Hubris is.

29 is not ‘pretty late’ to be having a family. WWI and WWII had their share of older men in, then as they came out; starting families. Over 50 for a fellow, that’s ‘pretty late’ to be starting a family… And it started then, the 70’s, but the 80’s and 90’s had a lot of women starting families later; say in their thirties or later.

I take Hubris as being in his mid-late 20’s; Hubris’ dad could very well have been 40’s or 50’s when he was gifted with a son; I took Hubris’ mom to be 50’s when she appeared to give Hubris a check for Paste.

You guys are putting a LOT of thought into this. But you’re skipping ahead to info I haven’t provided. I haven’t said that Hubris’ dad was involved in any wars. Or that he was in the American military at all. What if he, say, was in the Austrian military… and served his mandatory time (do they have mandatory military service in Austria?) and then competed in the Biathlon in the Olympics shortly thereafter, met Hubris’ mother, moved to the US the way he’d always planned to, had a kid… Oh, maybe it’s ME that’s put too much thought into this…

Yes, they have mandatory conscription in the Austrian Bundesheer. It’s only six months, and you can easily get a deferment.

Yeah, I know a guy who did his six. He was really knowledgeable in anti-tank mines. Funny that.

True Greg, you didn’t say US service. So, if Hubris has dual citizenship more power to him. He was still born in the USA, he’s a US citizen…

Let’s see how long this one lasts with Mr. Biner… it’s going to probably put him off game as a ‘gotta know’ instead of the ‘none of your beeswax’ heh. Going to be a long afternoon on the range!

[My father did the same. Tried to talk me out of enlisting. (He’d enlisted, he’d served in war… aware of that-I wanted the aid for college) Then I found out I couldn’t (shot down by a physical requirement I couldn’t meet)]

I made a career of the Air Force. That being said, I didn’t push our kids wanting them to join the military. My stepson is in the Army Reserves, but that was his choice. I didn’t push him.

Or, barring demon_4’s thought, more likely bug his Daughter to get Hubris to tell’im. Or Her so supposedly She can pass the info along.
Personally, I think Hubris must be a saint to put up with that horse’s-[ahem!]- “Karabug’s” father. I think I prolly would have clocked the old mule before now. But then I have “anger management issues” and I’m not known for my tolerance of stupid people. (no matter Whose father/mother/etc they may be)

You can pick your spouse but you can’t pick your inlaws. You’d be surprised about when ‘that’ becomes ‘family’ how much thick hide, beandipping (sidestepping or sending the topic elsewhere) and the need to paste wax your combine or garbage cans becomes (and buying one or both so you have one to wax)
