Sound effects are great, aren’t they? Hey, did anyone ever look at all the old MAD magazine Don Martin cartoons where he had such great sound effects? That guy was great. I never got the chance to meet him, which is probably good. I’d have gushed. Or ‘Fl’Gursht’ or something.
I remember one, when MAD did one of their square bound super specials, where they had a set of stickers in the magazine. All the stickers were stamp-style Don Martin sound effect cartoons. Brilliant. I believe, though, that the “Poit!” sticker had a drawing of a woman’s breast springing from it’s safe space within her undergarments. My buddy Jon got his copy of MAD taken away because of that.
I blame Nick Meglin.
Don Martin Mad stuff was fantastic.
In other places, let’s see if Mal decides to be dumb enough to get splorked and phlotzed one more time or not….
Maybe he will get plowdered.
“That’s exactly the poit I was tryin’ ta make!”
First off Mal is as dumb as ever. not even understanding to change position.
and sincerely…well I hope for the series of 3 rule lol
Don Martin was the funniest cartoonist ever, I could literally be in tears reading his stuff. Hard to remember many, Fester Bestertester of course was a perenial favourite, but I remember a strip called “A day on the bus” featuring and old lady and a reluctant gent who failed to surrender his seat, the resulting chaos and fantastic facial expressions were a joy to behold.
We have FINALLY found a character you hate more than Lowell!!
Greg, she WAS rather a rotund woman with large melons. It’s no wonder they went “ploit!” out of her dress! For those wondering … it IS SFW and can be seen

[chuckles] He was a good one, yeah. Though I also liked the guy that later went on to do a comic called “Groo the Wanderer”. I Think Sergio Aragonés started in MAD as well, anyway. He had a similar sense of humor anyway.
In any case, loved that collection of crazies, loons and just straight up comic geniuses in the literal sense.
As well as Don Martin, it would be good to talk about another comic great.
This is Will Eisner week (Mar. 1-7). http://www.willeisner.com/
