    Just have to know . . . was this facility sponsored by a nearby hospital? Looks like fun and owies.

      Ha! No, it was sponsored by a large crowd of people who need a place to skate. You know as well as I do that city officials rarely look at a crowd of kids skating and think, “Oh, I’m so glad that the youth of our area are out getting some fresh air and exercise in our public spaces.”

      No, the first thing they usually think of is lawyers, lawyers fees, and preemptively setting the representatives of the law onto the skaters in order to avoid any lawyers that have been hired by people other than themselves.

      When properly built and when properly kept up by planning ahead with a maintenance budget, skateparks solve a heck of a lot of problems. Plus, y’know, skating in a skatepark is like using a wrench to turn a bolt. Skating in places that weren’t meant for it is like using a pair of pliers to turn a bolt. It can be done, but that wasn’t the idea…
