MidSouthCon

Last year, I worked the SouthEast Chapter of the National Cartoonist Society’s table at HerosCon in Charlotte NC. That was fun, but what I really wanted was to scope things out and see if I might not put the effort into turning Hubris into more of a full-time occupation.

Setting up a Hubris table at OutdoorFests and Comics Cons would be great. I still don’t know if I can do it, what with other projects that constantly crop up- it’s hard to plan ahead.

Like this weekend. I bought table space at MIDSOUTHCON. I figured it’s here in town and it’ll be fun and easy to dip a toe in the water. Alas, I picked up a freelance job with nightmarish deadlines.

So, I’m at MidSouthCon for the panels and demonstrations that they asked me to sit in on, and that’s great. And I’ll man my table for a few hours today.

So come on by, if you’re in the West Tennessee area, willya? It’s lots of fun, and the dealer room is intriguing as always (Goggles, anyone? Swords?) And there’s ALWAYS the costumes. Come see those. I’ll try to take some photos for you today.

Stripped

Not everyone who reads webcomics was a big fan of newspaper comics, but in case YOU are, here’s a cool chance (closing in on your last chance) to sponsor the extra footage and minutes in a great documentary about the disappearing art of newspaper comics. Dave Kellett (Hi, Dave!) is the go-to guy on this, and he’s a great fellow. He and his team have worked like crazy folk making this happen. Now, they’re doing last minute extras to make this documentary all that it can be- and you can be part of it.

Okay, things have gone just too far. Really.

I like banjo music. Steve Martin. Hitchhiker’s TV show theme song. Mumford & Sons. Banjo, yeah.

And I thought the zombie thing was pretty fun. I met Tom Savini, who did the makeup FX for the old Zombie movies.

Now? Zombie Killer Banjos.

Where are we going, people? Where? Click HERE to see where.

Indoors Outdoors

Everything in the world is on the web now, including the world itself. I get all kinds of RSS feed and links to cool, fun sites and blogs and catalogs and all. One of the best is THE ADVENTURE BLOG. I get an email every day with links to their latest fun stuff, and if there’s time, I troll around there and check it out.

They have this on there now:

So. Wanna keep up with the outdoors while you’re indoors? Or while you have your smartphone out? I know it seems a little daffy to geek out on the outdoors digitally, but hey… good content is good content.

I’m up to my eyeballs in deadlines, so DebRebel has saved us for content today by pointing me to this video on MSN. Some of the snippets I’ve seen on MTV’s ‘Ridiculousness’ and some of the ones I haven’t seen are ones that can be filmed anywhere people skate, but they’re all still very fun. Enjoy!

Oh, and there’s a dirty word at the end, so… y’know. Kill the sound or something if you don’t wanna hear a kid with tailbone damage say dirty words.
