Personality comes into judging, doesn’t it? I mean, if we all saw things the same way and felt the same way about what we saw, there’d hardly be a reason for judges.

But if we feel our judgements aren’t being respected, well, we feel WE aren’t being respected. And, as we all know that if everyone just felt and behaved the we ourselves behaved, there would be no war and no poverty- if we ourselves aren’t being respected, those who don’t respect us are enemies of peace and plenty. Anarchists and Huns, obviously.

Hubris- Okay, ONE rule…

I like events in the Fest to be fairly self-explanatory. But if you (or me, in this case) try to go through the event and see how it would actually happen… well, you come up with RULES.

Not GOOD rules, as a rule, but rules that prevent the game from being, y’know… unwinnable, unloseable, unworkable, stupid, or whatever.

Then you realize that if you imagine the game to its conclusion ad absurdum, well, the rules could be done away with if the PARTICIPANTS bothered to think the whole event through and figured out that you can’t just leap at a wooden board and try to shove a bazooka into a hole in the board in order to guarantee yourself a few points. If you DO try it, chances are that someone else is going to have to take your second throw.

Hubris- Safety Checks

I’ve got this book signing and cartoon class thing this weekend. It’s kind of exciting. I’ll have both the Hubris books and two Buckets books for sale at the bookstore, and the class ought to be a hoot.

I’ll be thinking of you guys. I wish you all could be there.

Mostly because you seem to know more about this comic strip than I do, pretty often. But partly because I think we all ought to hang out together. That’d be COOL!
