How do you like ol’ Docta Pain, leaping out of the canoe and back into the bike race?! Nice, right? She’s got spunk. And probably a weapon, somewheres on her. I wouldn’t wanna find out.
And that Kara Biner, she’s really moved into the role of leader of her team, and not just a hotdog who needed backup. ‘Cause that role is taken by another competitor in the ‘Fest.
Speaking of other roles being taken…
You didn’t think Mr. Biner would be unaware of his powerful voice, didja?
You didn’t think he wouldn’t be crazy proud of it or anything, wouldja?
You didn’t suppose that Kara doesn’t just love her daddy for his unique, ear-splitting ability, shouldja?
Mr. Biner has issues. We know this.
He also has some skills. They don’t often get used, what with having limited application in a world that hasn’t become apocalyptic yet, but they are skills nonetheless.
I don’t know about where YOU live, but mosquitos around here are pretty nightmarish, and this is a GOOD year- when there aren’t as many as have been in the past.
When I get bitten by mosquitos (or whatever word it is- attacked, sucked, fed upon, stung, zapped… whatever) I spend the next few hours with my skin crawling, convinced I’ve got the little bastards all over me.
I’m itching all over now just writing this.
If I were neck deep in a lake to hide from mosquitos, I guarantee I’d still feel like they were all over me.

We can see that no one’s cheating so far, anyhow.
You want to work out, beforehand, who knows what about canoes and racing.
If you ask “you know your way around a canoe race, right?” and the person you’re facing says, “Yes, my brother and I raced frequently in Summer Camp. It was great”, then you have some information.
But you don’t have all the information you need. Perhaps the questions “Did you ever win a race?”, or “How young were you at the time?” or “Why is your life jacket on backward and inside out?” should have been asked, just for clarification.
‘Member in that Avengers movie? Tony Stark says, “I HAVE a Plan of Attack. Attack!”
That’s Big Ron’s plan to win the boat race.
“Paddle ’til you win.”
It’s very sound logic. Or maybe it just very much sounds like it might be logic.
It’s important to practice new skills.
But you gotta pick your time and place with care, just in case someone with a good reach and a long paddle is in striking distance.
