It’s like playing Dungeons & Dragons.
Your first time, you spend WAY longer than you think you should, just to create a character. Then, after burning an hour or so on that, your character is eaten by, I dunno, a Gelatinous Cube in the first five minutes.
You don’t have to spend another hour making another character, though… so you play the next game, and the next.
… So, if you had to re-outfit your boat and re-learn how to wet-exit every time you kayaked, you wouldn’t do it. But after you got that boat fitted out right, well, why NOT fall out of it a couple more times?
I’ve had learning curves worse than this. Poor Nikki. The first fifty fumbles will be the worst. Um, can she swim? Did anyone check?
I’m always startled by that comment. I come from a country where learning to swim is compulsory: You go to school, you get readin’, writin’, ‘rithmatic, and swimmin’, they’re just things that every single student is required by law to learn. But that’s not the case in other countries, and occasionally people say “oh, and can swim?” and my mind goes “Oh my god if they can’t swim, they could DIE!” It just seems so unlikely that anyone would have missed so much school that they can’t swim.
It was required of some majors at the university I went to. I brought some medical records that proved to make me test they way they wanted would seriously impact my health (sinus and ear infections requiring hospitalization). I graduated without it–I can swim just not ‘conventionally’. I wouldn’t be here if I couldn’t…
hehe NO ONE SAID it would be easy Nikki hehe.
Nikki, if Kara were angry with you, she’d send you into some class 4 white water. No, this is what Kara is like when she LIKES you. Now, show her you know how to oar your boat.
10 minutes later..”Watch THIS!!” BLUB…. “Lil he’p??”
The water is looking weird in this strip, I had trouble understanding why it seemed like the kayak was pointing in the air in the last panel… I’m guessing Greg is more used to whitewater, am I right?
I’m loving this arc by the way!
They’re still on land. Kara’s getting Nikki to practice before setting out on the water.
