    Poor Durnell. Still saying Chase R is going to be going home without getting a fee out of anybody.

    For all they know, the scores sat at such that Gupta is in the top five with a zero, and Hunter, same thing, despite he’s not there, he qualified. It can happen. They only had 13 sign up so each contestant had better than a 1:3 chance of making the finals.

    Hunter got in on points for the swim suit portion of the judging.
    Gupta is one of the Mennen Black plants that hasn’t swum up out of the river yet. And, if you looked at the alt-text comment, Pete’s nickname is probably “The Luchador”.

      I wondered if anyone noticed, what with all the loopy problems we’ve had with the software changeover, that there was hovertext included these days. And ‘Luchador’ is a good guess, if not correct. I encourage you to look over the hint again.

        Luchia = Lucky.
        Green hair = Paddy.

    WAIT! TOSJ, Feelin’ and myself ran the Kayak event … why weren’t we listed? Huh? Huh? (I guess I’ll find out tomorrow afternoon when I check back in on these comments.)

    BTW, there’s a “Gupta Chandrasekhar” (with an “h”) listed at Acadamia.edu as studying “Environmental Sustainability, Engineering, and Chemical Engineering”. Maybe he’s a patreon…

      I’m betting there a LOT of people named Gupta Chandrasekhar. Both the first and last names are pretty common, aren’t they? I was going for a sort of Indian “Joe Smith”

        I seen the name Chandrasekhar and thought of the Nobel Prize Laureate..
        Subramanyan Chandrasekhar… heh.

    Gah! alt-text. It’s just been the strip title for so long I gave up checking. Now when I go back and check (just into July) I find that it’s still mostly strip titles (what’s that, the default?), so I’m not going back any further.

    Depending on the strip, sometimes the alt-text is funnier than the strip itself (this happens sometimes with Dinosaur Comics), sometimes it helps explain the comic (that happens a lot in Hark! a Vagrant), sometimes it’s bonus humor (xkcd, Dinosaur Comics, SMBC, a few others), sometimes it’s worthless drivel (maybe I’d better leave that one alone: one person’s worthless drivel is another’s hilarious bonus humor, I suppose). Some of them have gotten forced from, I guess, the strain of having to come up with not only comics on a regular (or not) basis but also alt-text to go with the comics. Since I’m not getting paid for my opinions (and I don’t think I’m helping anyone learn how to write or cartoon better), there’s no point in being mean by pointing out examples. However, one good example is, if you don’t have something clever to say, then it’s okay to just not say anything. You don’t have to post dumb comments in the alt-text. (Not that all unfunny comments are dumb, but it’s wise to not force the issue. Just sayin’.)
