Bob is the wisest. There needs to be a ‘Book Of Bob’ (as I have ‘let it be’ running RIGHT now)…
That tag game is the best.
[Pray for me I leave in 14 hours on a 42 hour bus ride. Advantages: a third the price of flying. I get LUGGAGE and a second bodybag sized suitcase for $15 plus overhead, underseat, purse, and daybag. Neener. And free parking. DOWNER: read ’42 hours’. Ow. heh]
There is an entire religion based on the Book of Bob: The Church Of The Subgenius, with a text allegedly received by “Bob” Dobbs. Mark Mothersbaugh(Devo), David Byrne(formerly Talking Heads, and R Crumb(who somehow became a world famous obscure cartoonist) and Paul Mavrides who worked with Gilbert Shelton on The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.
From the outset, I have had a sneaking suspicion the Bob’s character includes a hattip to Bob Dobbs’ followers.
It’s entertaining, but it, an Discordianism, are going through a period where politicals attempt to tie one or both to a particular philosophy. They are heretics who twist both belief structures into sucking the gullible into modern fascism. None of the people I listed would be associated with the politicals who try to subvert Bob Dobbs and Discordianism.
Devo was named because the founding members were at Kent State on May 4 1970 and thought America was devolving into fascism.
But I read comics to get away from politics. I wanted to raise awareness the Gospel of Bob, and also caution against reading too much into particular explanations. /irony off.
Previous post didn’t make it through so to put it in a short post, the IS a Church of Bob, usually known as the Church of SubGenius, and “Bob” Dobbs is their prophet and Slack is their goal. Sometimes wonder if Bob is a tribute to them, because two famous but obscure cartoonists, R Crumb and Paul Mavrides(worked with Gilbert Shelton of Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers ) are, or were members of the Church of SubGenius.
Crumb started with Hallmark and Mavrides started with underground comix.
There’s not a direct line from the Church of Bob to Bob here, but it is very much an indirect lineage. I was in the group coming along after Crumb and Shelton had done their thing. I read the reprints, and knew of the culture, but wasn’t part of it. Bob here is a mix of those comics I read and the people I’ve known who were part of that culture. And ‘Bob’ is his name probably for the very same reason that those guys chose ‘Church of Bob’.
I love the Tag game! And I LOVE the idea that this dude is wearing a lumberjack outfit when he presumably got tagged during or just before the log-rolling event!
Lee is a great guy and a true blue supporter of Hubris in all its forms. I drew him into two earlier cartoons, then set them aside to hand deliver at a Con this past weekend. Of course when he showed up, I thought “Okay, his cartoons are…. Where the hell are his cartoons?” I grasped at a dim hope that I’d added them to the box of originals I had with me, but in the back of my head I knew… they were on the corner of my drawing board where I “wont forget them.” So Lee is now in his third appearance, and all three have to be mailed instead of proudly hand delivered.

He’d need a pipe.

I’ve never been a lumberjack but I have worked in a few sawmills.
Did Greg just draw himself into the cartoon?
Someone named “Lee.”
Makes sense, in a Lee-way.

Will I get leeway for not reading tags properly? I claim mental issues.
Although, Lee and Greg look similar.
Yep. We’re of a similar description. He better hope I never run out and do something worth a look by the FBI, they might wanna talk to him.
at this point is not even just ‘you are it but also you been HAD!’ LOL
Fest? What fest? That ended right? That ended a week ago. When’s the next fest going to start?
I hate it when I put something important where I won’t forget it, then forget it. Even worse is when I don’t even remember where I put it.
Loving the game of tag.
