Kara’s dad is loosely based on a teacher I knew a long time ago. I probably didn’t understand him at all, but what I decided way back then about him works pretty well as a cartoon character. Who I was at the time would work pretty well as a cartoon character, too, now that I think of it.
Poor Docta Pain! Does she ever get rid of the black eye? Or is it mascara’ed on?
The others seem (more) okay with humoring dad than Kara is. A situation where the less experience, the better.

Kara’s dad reminds me of the PE coaches I had in high school. I think they were all retired Marines.

One of my aunt-in-laws reminds me of Kara’s dad. She’s tiny elderly woman, who’s sweet as anything, but she’s still a high school teacher and she knows how to lay down the law with the students.
Let’s see if this ends up to be herding cats without an open can of tuna.
