(I can’t help but think about Little Bo Peep…and ‘leave them alone and they will come home, wagging their tails behind them’) Waiting for when Lowell comes home with his Tribe and they all camp in his house… someone posts a video on youtube and it goes viral… and adding some advertising and Lowell can retire. Heh. Yeah, Hubris will probably go looking somehow…
I’m afraid that Hubris is right. Many times this self-discovery mumbo jumbo is deadly. Specially when you put an untrained person in the middle of the wilderness without appropriate equipment. You can ask John McCandless how his self-discovery trip ended.
This is one of the times when Bob must STFU and let Hubris manage a search and rescue expedition.
People like Bob tend to think as if Gaia or Mother Nature do exist. No they don’t. The world will try its damnedest best to kill the fools, the lames and the sick. Only the strong and prepared survive.
Whoa, that’s like, Deep, man.
~sorry, I couldn’t resist the Bill-n-Ted impression that seemed to be called for there.~
In a less airheads sort of fashion though I kind of agree with Bob on this.
Yes it can be dangerous “in the real world” to leave people be to “find themselves” but this isn’t the real world. This is a world where people do dumb sh!t and don’t get dead… Like going over waterfalls and whamming their fool heads on the underside beams in their basements without breaking their fool necks. Or playing combat frisbee with no serious causalities.
So I say, leave the dork out there for a bit longer. It’ll do him good. He’s too sprung anyway. Could use some time to sort out his Own custard for a change.
Ahh… Let’s see: Hubris and Bob get in trouble whilst searching for Lowell. Lowell ends up saving them. The Tribe recognize Bob as one of their own (raised in their midst, if you weeeel.) Lowell gets a loincloth and continues to live in the forest. The Tribe, repatrioted with Bob, moves into Lowell’s house.
I’m with Bob on this one. Lowell is an adult (that’s debatable, I know) who made his own choice and now he’s got to live with it. It’s not for Hubris to go chasing after him.
There is a difference between letting people be independent and not caring. Bob is Zen, existing in life. HE is happy because he is at peace. Lowell is looking for peace, he won’t find it in the 9-5 (6-7-9) o clock world. Not everyone can find peace alone. That and Lowell is almost criminally stupid miiight just kill him before he finds happiness.
I think at the very least he should find Lowell and ask how he’s doing. Doesn’t necessarily need to drag him back to civilization or hold his hand through wilderness training, but making sure he isn’t dead or dying and staying updated on his location/progress will help if rescue becomes necessary in the future. At the very least it’ll help his peace of mind.
Temperature doesn’t seem cold. Hypothermia isn’t an issue or Lowell would be dead by now. People can survive without food for days, water is an issue, but Stanky Creek is there. Hmmm…

I side with Bob. Unless this means that Greg has to rewrite one of his story ideas.

Paintball into a rescue paintball tourney?
