There’s always “Mr/Miss/Mz Obvious’ that doesn’t get it. And they are the first one to show. Always. Usually if you have press, they’re the ones that get the microphone and camera too…

Bet that dude and his cronies are the first ones there to use it and dominate the place.

First person to use it WILL be Paste. The next person to use it will brag to their friends. The person third in line will offer $$ to be next. Then Paste will run afoul of Mr. Permit, Mr Fines and Mr Insurance (or lack thereof..) Annnnd back come the lawyers.

That other kid looks ordinary enough. You can obviously draw children that are properly proportion, so why does Paste always look like a 1960’s Troll Doll? Is it part of a story arc? Does Paste have achondroplasia?

Paste looks the way he does because I needed him to be instantly recognizable. He’s sort of an amalgam of the people that went into his personality. I needed the other kid today to be very, very normal, in a sort of ‘too cool for you’ way. I haven’t fleshed him out in the storyline yet. We may get to see why he’s so ‘normal’.

As Matt Groening says the mark of a classic cartoon character is of they can be recognized in silhouette. I would say Paste would be recognized by just his shape.

Thank you for the answer. I was not trying to be disrespectful, I truly was curious. In a photo anything can happen, but every bit of ink in a cartoon is a choice. I was wondering about your choice. The choice makes sense, thanks.

The question didn’t seem disrespectful at all. Seems perfectly reasonable to ask. Hope the answer sounded like I was being serious… serious enough for a comic strip, anyway.

We Canadians are very humble, too… In fact, I’m downright proud of my humility… đŸ˜›

Not related to anything happening in today’s strip, but a friend forwarded this to me and my first thought was “HUBRIS!”

And is it sad that I didn’t know Stanky Creek was a real place?

Stanky Creek (Nesbit Park) is a real place in Bartlett TN. It’s probably the best bike trails in the immediate area of Memphis. If anyone’s coming to town and wants to ride some mountain bikes, you let me know when to meet you. I prefer early in the morning for bikes!

Paste: “”Lazy” isn’t a way of life, it’s a passion. And passion takes a LOT of work.”

lazy though genius to come up with it and the kid just met paste and already has paste figured out

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but would anyone that lazy have the fortitude to build a pump park by themselves without any power equipment? This is going to take him months. Which should keep him out of trouble (that is, out of Hubris’s way)

Wonder how bunker dude replenishes his food and water, or how does he get out without anyone noticing him?

Tom’s hitting the selling points. Yeah, Paste isn’t lazy, but the kid labelled him ‘lazy’ because Paste didn’t want to “have to” pedal his bike. And Bunker Dude has some sneaky issues we haven’t addressed. Yet.
