It’s an annual race during Memphis In May festivities that goes from the mouth of the Wolf river down the Mississippi (the only time and place that the river is closed to heavy traffic for such an event, I’ve been told) and around Mud Island (made famous in the movie The Firm, even though people seeing the film reportedly thought Mud Island must have been some Hollywood-created backdrop, ’cause no one would be dumb enough to name a real place that.) and ending in the harbor.
Some friends and I used to paddle safety boat for the race. Some other friends did the actual racing, and likely still do. I haven’t been in a while, I hate to admit.
