The Crazy-Ball game did look a bit like a clown riot, from a drone’s point of view- or from a nervous and well-funded SWAT-team’s point of view.  I’m not saying anything political about “These Unprecedented Times” either.  I’m just saying Crazy-Ball doesn’t look civilized.

It’s not SUPPOSED to, is it?

Also, there’s Jalepeno, and Habanero, and Ghost, and a half dozen other pepper names that came out of the ‘hot pepper’ craze a while back.  I’m thinking ‘Nuclear Pepper’ could have or should have been one.

Where do you want to be in a crowd?  Are you the Alpha, in the middle of the main conversation?  The Beta, supporting several other players in the game? The Joker, propping up other egos with your own? The Wallflower, standing off to one side waiting for your moment? Cinderella, coming alive when the chance presents itself?

Or maybe you’re like Peter Wang, and you’re a raging Narcissist.  I figure he assumes that anyone who appears not to be paying attention to him is just pretending because they’re extra jealous and can’t stand themselves for it.

Everyone seems to be enjoying his or her time at the Outdoorfest!  Including the various and sundry folks charged with security and safety.

It’s probably like theme park workers going back into the park on their days off- you’re just using work time to get comfortable and scout opportunities, right?

Hubris- Smitten

I grew up in a little church. The church bulletin would have benefitted from a few good adventure stories.

As it was, it was all “Invocation” and “Scripture reading” and “Passing the plate” and “Sermon” and “Benediction”.  Nowhere in there did it say anything about “Once time, we were in the church bus, and I mean it was hot, and we were tired, and there was this big crowd off to the side of the highway.  It looked like a carnival or something, so we thought…”

I nodded off five minutes into either the sermons or the interminable prayers by one of the more florid and fervid deacons… a nice adventure tale would have kept me up a little longer.

Hubris- We Got the Beat

I don’t have any police officer friends at the moment.  So I have to use the vocabulary I learn from television and movies to fill in their dialogue.

In this day and age, we hear over and over again that police dramas and procedurals are rife with inaccurate science, outlandish technology, and absurd conversations and situations.

I believe it.  Over the years I’ve seen television shows about cartoonists come and go.  That is to say, I’ve seen television shows about people who occasionally say they’re cartoonists.  If the wild inaccuracies of the cartoon sitcoms (Ted Knight drawing his comic strip with a puppet on his drawing hand, holding the pencil in its mouth, for instance) are anything like the wild inaccuracies of police shows, then it’s entirely possible that none of us have the slightest idea what policemen and women do or say all day long.

I have said all that in order to say all this: I apologize if police officers don’t actually travel a ‘beat’ while on duty.

I’m sneaking up on changing the update schedule.  Did you guys want four cartoons this week, or the usual three?

Also, I’ve begun running some new ads here and there.  All the regular readers, say “hi” to the new folks. New folks, feel free to use the comment section.  Hope you’ll stay around with us.  Also, whoever came in from Project Wonderful and read 500 pages on the site- Thank you!  That was quite an investment in time and energy.  I hope you enjoyed it completely.
