One place I worked at had a few machines that would decide to fault out at the worst moment and would ‘almost work’ for whatever length of time they decided to sulk. And of course they were vital to what had to get done, so. Another Abandon All Hope bit.

Nope, absolutely no concept of what this is like, and I certainly never spent 2 hours in the mountains looking for a broken battery post from my headlamp, knowing that I had a perfectly functioning spare in my pack.
Better than losing a hard contact lens in waist deep grass and having to find it because the prescription backup glasses give you an instant headache because they ground them wrong and this trip isn’t the time to find that out. (yes, it took close to an hour and I did find the lens)
Just one more minute, and I’ll have the universe figured … oh, squirrel!
