Dang! I knew I forgot something!
And no, it wasn’t the ‘Ball’ in Calvin/Crazy Ball. It was yesterday’s cartoon.
Some client work kept me chasing a deadline until that responsibility and the following morning’s responsibility to meet a bunch of people for an early morning workout nearly overlapped.
Oh, the difficult life of a cartoonist! Sit in a chair all day ’til you’re delirious with exhaustion, drawing funny colorful pictures, and then jump up early to run around in the park. I tell ya- it’s work, work, work.
I think what I was trying to say until this brain-damaged rant went sideways was “Hey, look! A Thursday cartoon instead of a Wednesday cartoon this week!”
Word order represents significance.
If the ball was important in any way, it would appear first in the list. That’s why it’s “dodge” ball, and not “ball” dodge.
Again, if the ball mattered, the game would be called “ballcrazy.”
And a Might Fine cartoon it is, too! 🙂
Sometimes Calvin had a wooden ball from wickets and a wicket mallet. That’s where the ball came from.
That’s okay, these people can improvise…
As for clients, they are such pests at times. I’m back to doing contract artist stuff and it can drive me crazy-er at times. My better half has no clue about what I’m doing in the shop, and we respect the other’s project (want to use the drill press? you ASK if the other person is through with their setup if they didn’t take it down and clean up, before you touch it) AND my second brain scrubbing came back negative. Phew.
Oh what a brain-out-to-lunch, it was a croquet ball and a croquet mallet….
Ball definition according to Merriam-Webster (although admittedly not the first definition):
A VERY PLEASANT EXPERIENCE: A GOOD TIME.
Captain Underpants!
A croquet ball perhaps?
