It’s the simple questions in life that mean the most-
“Do you want dessert?”
“Why are we here?”
“Is your mom always like that?”
“What’s the ultimate question of Life, The Universe, and Everything?”
“Why?”
So, here, Hubris asks a question that Peter should have considered before now. “Why?” Do we know Why Peter wants to have a huge chain of stores? For fame? For money? For fulfilling a sense of importance and destiny that life has heretofore failed to provide? And Mal. Why does Mal care about this? Maybe ’cause he knows he’ll be needing a job pretty dang soon. Maybe ’cause Peter has more of an alpha personality than Mal can handle and he’ll wise up later. And Hubris? He probably knows Why Not, but maybe not Why.
Lowell: “So that I can run you into the ground.”
Enis: “So I can get revenge on my former coworkers that wouldn’t let me bully them.”
Mal: “It seemed like a good idea in my head.”
Hubris: “I’m just here for something to do between canoe and biking trips.”
This just so isn’t going to end well, is it? Is it close to restraining order yet?
There will be a riot if the Festival People hear of this attempt to ruin their Good Time!
Lowell seems to be distancing himself from Mal and Peter. Has his second trip down the red wagon course changed him? Has he found his answer to “why”? Or is he just focused on his free funnel cake.
Lowell is being casso-wary.

Hubris isn’t going to budge and it irks Enis to no end. He has no reason to sell. It’s like Mr. Potter wanting to buy the savings and loan. It’s a thorn in Enis’ side. Funny how it doesn’t bother Lowell anymore.
So… it’s been two + years since the fest started.

Yeah, but not REALLLLLY. See, it takes, on average, two seconds to read a comic strip. Let’s double that number, since Hubris comics are slightly larger and have lots of words. So four seconds, four times a week, fifty-two weeks a year, times two years… divide by sixty to get the minutes… The Fest has been going on for half an hour.
