Oh, Steven, Steven, Steven… you’re about to be under a thumb, and you have no idea it’s coming.
Of course, after it’s actually happening, you may not have any idea it’s going on. So that’s okay.
Do you think Steven has Hubris’ ability to grin maniacally and keep doing whatever he was doing to begin with?
Hubris will still be in the middle of the hurricane long after this. Enis and Mal are gunning for his shop, and Paste and David *think* they have ownership of the Fest. He may not have Kara to comfort him after a long, hard day, but there will still be the raccoons.
You got to know when to hold them, know when fold them, know when to walk away, know when to run. Words from The Gambler. These work well in life too.
I’m not mad, just sad about this turn of events. Hubris is losing everything it seems. His Outdoor Fest, maybe his store, his health, and now, his girlfriend. I hope there is a way back for them (yes, I know it’s a comic! 🙂 ) because their was joy in their interactions, which we don’t have enough in this world.
Not saying they both need to stay the same either, but…a balance could have been reached. Kara may grow up but a big Hubie-hole in her heart will always be there without him. And for Hubris? I feel he’s going to find that life was better with her.
Man, is this going to be an occurring thing now where Hubris just basically teleports away?
Also Im with Scott and Curtis. Hubris really has it rough right now. Not knowing if his father is dead or alive, people wanting to buy his shop and fest, all the craziness and the friggin terror bird (Cassowary), now loosing Kara, Im honestly afraid to say the cursed line of “What else can go wrong?” because we all know something is else going to go wrong.
With his newfound powers, Hubris will fight for peace, quiet and his wonderful, little store.
And, of course, the chance for some skateboard time with Bigfoot.
I would love to learn how Hubie does that.
I think you’ll need to ask Bob for lessons…?
Wait, how long have Kara and Steven known each other in the comic? I know that in real world time the Outdoor Fest strips have been going on for months if not years, but in comic world time I assumed the Fest was only over the course of a weekend. And IIRC they only met right before the Fest. Which means things have moved really fast between them.
I’m not saying it couldn’t happen because I’ve seen this sort of thing happen, I’m just trying to get a handle on the sequence of events.
I sorta blurred through the few weeks between Steven tearing up his ankle, meeting Kara, and finally getting her to agree to him being on the team. So, they’ve known each other a month or two, I suppose, but this weekend was the place and time when everything gelled.
My “take” on all this drama?
I think it’ll come down to 3 things:
The Store?
—He’s always wanted to keep that. He’s never shown any wavering on THAT point. They’ll never get that from him without his consent, which he’ll never give.
Kara?
—Yes, he wants her in his life, but not if it means she’s being with him against her will. “CONSENT” is the non-negotiable keystone of that part of the picture.
As for all of the rest of it?
—He’ll wave it all ‘Goodbye’, & be happy to see the last of it, so he can just go back to running his store.
Kara, you’re making a mistake.
Hubris will go back to being Hubris.
Bob will be Bob.
Paste is now on his own track. Cue however if they manage to do the Outdoorfest in the way it was meant, or turn it over to some professional event producers and watch them ruin it, sell it to Enis and let him finish destroying it.
Stay tuned, for another chapter of…. [afternoon soap opera organ music]

remember when hubris met kara’s father as they were shooting targets.. hubris told her father that kara would marry a anesthesiaist… and when they got a divorce, he would be there to comfort kara…. so it’s going according to the story line…
…In accordance with the prophecy.
I think Hubris might be a bit of a seer (Yes they are real).
He could see the future and guess the outcome of events. I know seer’s are real because I had visions like that and they came true, very very scary events. Luckily i’ve only had two major ones and haven’t really had any since, thank god. The first two were scary enough. I saw 9/11 in my dream before it happened and had a horrible sense of foreboding, and I was only around 6 years old when it happened, I was scared for my parents lives, I didn’t want to go to Kindergarten because I thought it was going to be the last time I saw my parents. Second time was the scariest, when I was 11 I was dreaming I was in school talking to a friend, random guy came up to me and said his grandfather died yesterday. I woke up to a dead man in my bed, i could feel his cold body beside me, I ran screaming into my fathers room, strange thing is he looked 100% like my great grandfather, who died less than 2 months later, in bed.
There are many versions of precog. If you’re going to trace it it usually switches sex every generation. A man gets it from his mother, a woman gets it from her father. More than one of the children can have a version of it. And the medium of the transmission of the information can be different to each one in the line, or even the person so gifted (or cursed) can have multiple ways things are presented.
Yup….. nothing like a good Wukilar story at the campfire to loosen things up a bit. Or tighten them, depending on your perspective and intentions in telling the story (ie, scaring campers into submission).
Wukilar or another round of the story the kid told about how the Wukilar got all of the family… that did get them all to bed and quiet. And gave Twang something to do.
I remember way back when, Didn’t Hubris say Kara would end up with an anesthesiologist etc, etc?
