I went to see Solo this evening.
I like Star Wars. I was 11 when the first one came out, which was the perfect age for that movie. I even saw the Star Wars TV Christmas special- The one that a lot of people don’t quite believe was ever made now.
Unlike, apparently, some people that get themselves in the news, I’m not angered by much in movies. I don’t insist that all movies are made for me to like, and I’m probably less discriminating that many film aficionados. I mean, I don’t even hate Waterworld, and that one didn’t seem to suit much of anybody.
Even so, though. If they make a JarJar Binks movie, I don’t think I’ll bother to go.
A movie about JarJar Binks would probably make the perfect score and stand forever at the pinnacle of the Rotten Tomatoes rating chart. Yeuuk.
Poor Hubris. This means though, that the Outdoorfest is about to start… within a month of strips, at least. 🙂 Yay
I like Waterworld!
Me, too. There was a time when admitting that got you ostracized, though. Time heals all snarky critiques, I guess.
Me too, except for a slight disappointment with the end being a bit too easy. Although I seem to recall reading that the original ending wasn’t quite so simple, but the studio/focus groups caused it to be dumbed down. Could be wrong about that though, please don’t take it as gospel.
I also like his other apocalyptic movie “The Postman”. While nowhere near as powerful as the David Brin book, I thought they did a pretty fair job of filming it. Particularly loved Tom Petty’s cameo, with the veiled self-reference to his “Lucky” music video.
I know less than nothing about art, but nice coloring technique on this – it worked well. And good callback on the characterization.
This wasn’t a nightmare by any means. Hubris would have loved a chance to just sit and talk with his dad. Knowing that he’d have to wake up and face reality without him would be the nightmare. So, he’s not ready for the fest yet. Better give it another day.
Yes, I pay attention to the art style. Thanks for asking 🙂
well, the three top panels seem more like traditional made.
about movies well I mostly decide if I am going to watch them or not depending on the trailer I see if I am tempted or not. I also admit that I like a lot of different styles and don’t mind indie low budget movies. a lot of the times they are the best on scenarios.
like, well I am sorry, but I am really not tempted by the Solo movie or Jurassic parc. or well all the Mission impossible and Fast and Furious that kept adding on.
last note, I think the outdoor fest is coming VERY CLOSER SINCE THE NIGHTMARE!!!
And so it begins.
I like how his dad is still a giant in his dreams. It never really goes away.
To me, it looks like Hubris is an adult with his girlfriend, & reverts to a kid as soon as his dad appears. Notice how his hair (& hat) changed from panels 2-to-3.
I liked Waterworld too! And… I’ll even go out further on the limb, I like Nickleback still.
In the last 5 or 6 years I’ve been dreaming about many family members that have passed on. Sometimes I wake up sad but most of the time I relish it because I feel like I got to see and talk to them again. I my wife is jealous.
RIP Hubris Sanity, here comes all the torture of many people and sleepless nights, AKA, me on a daily basis.
“Sanity” won’t die, it just takes a vacation, until the “Outdoorfest” is over.
Sanity? How often is that a feature of the Hubrisphere, even without outdoorfests? Granted, there’ve been numerous moments of (comparative) calm during this long, strange trip. But in these parts, sanity is either elusive or illusive.
I watched the first movie (i.e. the one filled in the 70’s) with an ex back in the early 2000’s … but I fell asleep in the first 10 minutes.
Worse acting than The Cheeto-In-Chief on “The Apprentice” …
Poor Hubris..
He wants to progress in his relationship.. But both of them are damaged people, hiding behind habits.
Also..
Solo was fun.
Te dream sequence art is sketchy. The background looks like it was colored with a highlighter. My hindbrain caught it this time, before my front brain caught it.
