More photos of Famous Cartoonists… with me in them too.

Here’s a photo of the famous and wonderful Jack Davis- star of Mad Magazine and more books and ads and posters and comic books and stuff than you can conceive that one person did in a single lifetime. He’s my hero. That’s why I leapt into the photo as it was being taken and then ‘appropriated’ the camera’s memory card so the shot couldn’t be erased as being useless. Look! It looks like Mr. Jack and I actually met and talked and stuff!
This was taken at the National Cartoonist Society’s Southeast Chapter Fall Meeting (or maybe at a Reuben Division Judging weekend) at the University of Georgia- timed to coincide with the Jack Davis Award being given to Sergio Aragones. It was really, really awesome.

dang
“Hubris Foris”? Should just stick an L and T and have their last name “Florist” *LOL*…. uh yeah.
Glad to see Kara still “likes” Paste so much. snerk
I still haven’t revealed Hubris’ surname yet. Carlaisle Foris is Hubris’ mom’s son by her second husband.
.
Eek. Who’d have thought I’d ever put as much time into the family tree of the people that live in my head. Anyhow, I think their names are funny.
If there’s a joke with Paste’s real name someone will have to explain it to me . . . please?
There’s not a particular joke with Paste’s real name. Not reeeeeally. When I wrote the scene without using some official sounding name in the emergency room, it came off sounding just too familiar. So, I took the opportunity to make Hubris look a little cautious, then put the familiarity into the Doctor’s response. It seemed to work better that way.
Carlisle Foris? hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I just wonder how he got the nickname Paste (or was that explained in an earlier Hubris comic strip)…
I did a cartoon sort of explaining it years ago, but it was never used for anything outside my studio, really. It’s not particularly funny. In fact, if you want to know- Paste, like many young people, gave himself the pirate-y hip hop nickname. He thought people would assume it’s because he ‘sticks to his skateboard so well’, when in fact people just assume it indicates a snacking preference from preschool or even later in his educational career.
HAHAHAHA, now that was funny.
